INFORMATION REGARDING PURCHASING MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT

Almost without exception, what's listed in the Miscellaneous section has only one of each available. If you want it, don't hesitate before contacting me. When it's gone that's it. In most cases, what you see here cannot be replaced easily. I offer the same fifteen day turnaround for these products as I do for ones from my new catalog. PLEASE do not abuse this. Many other dealers have given up offering returns on used reels. Though sometimes I refer to this as the used section, fully half of the listings are actually closeouts of discontinued models, colors, or where I have decided not to carry a particular reel any longer. My inventory and the business-owned reels then become expendable at excellent savings for you. The conditions listed are accurate. In fact, most of my customers tell me that I am conservative on my condition reports. New reels are just that. Mint means that a reel may have been lined, but it has never been fished. Excellent usually means you'd be hard pressed to tell that it was used, but in fact it has been. Many of the reels on this list were intended to be used by me, but either never were or were used only once or twice. Since I am meticulous about taking care of my equipment, they are then almost always indistinguishable from new.

MISC. REELS FOR SALE

This list is accurate as of 1/26/07. More photos will be up very shortly.

  1. Henschel #0DD B&S model with standard reelfoot. 2.375"x0.875" and 3.5oz. It will hold a WF3F & 50yds of 20#. This is one of only a few direct drive models left since Henschel discontinued them a little over a year ago. New at 20% off. RH only. $415.00.SOLD

  2. Henschel #0DD B&S model with progressive reelfoot. 2.375"x0.875" and 3.7oz. It will hold a WF3F and 50yds of 20#. This is one of only a few direct drive models left since Henschel discontinued them a little over a year ago. New at 20% off. RH only. $460.00.SOLD

  3. Saracione 2.75" Mark I. The distributor for these reels (Bellinger Reels) decided to sell off the last of these original Saracione Mark I models, and I bought all he had left. They are essentially the identical reel to the Bellinger Mark I, but they have the Saracione name on them as Joe was the one who designed the reel and made the parts. Since Joe Saracione has retired from reelmaking it should make these a little more valuable down the road. However, they are not so costly as to deter one from fishing them. 2.7"x0.9" and 4.9oz. It will hold a DT3F and 50yds of 20#. A beautiful and functional trout reel with monobloc construction at a price that's right in there with current production reels. RH only. $595.00.SOLD

  4. Bellinger/Saracione Nickel/silver 2.75" Special Edition. There's a mouthful for you. This is one of the special edition B/S reels that featured amboyna sideplates. There were very few of these made. The handle is the Italian Ivorette that Joe discovered several years ago and the nickel/silver has a slight gold tint to it. Amboyna is a fancy figured wood that really distinguishes this reel from almost anything else out there. 2.7"x0.9" and 5.2oz. It'll hold a DT4F and 50yds of 20#. It comes with a Bellinger/Saracione reelpouch, box, and blank warranty card. It is new from my inventory. These haven't been available from Bellinger's in several years. New. RH, though Bellinger could convert it. $2250.00.

  5. Mt. Rainier 3.0 RV. This is the last one of these as Mt. Rainier has developed an entirely new line of reels. 3.0"x1.1" and 6.8oz. It will hold a WF5F and 75yds of 20#. This is a beautiful and functional anti-reverse trout reel. The spool is internal and is made of Delrin so that it is virtually weightless. That means almost no startup inertia. It also comes with a SPARE SPOOL. This is a new reel from my inventory that I want to sell since it won't be listed on the Mt. Rainier page of my site any longer. It comes with its own box, suede reelbag, tools, and instruction sheet. RH or LH. Closeout priced at $350.00.

  6. Orvis DXR 7/8. This is the later version of this reel and was made by the Ross Reel company. I've seen far fewer of these as opposed to the earlier version made by Lamson. 3.4" x 0.90" and 7.2oz. It will hold a WF7F & 150yds of 20#. It features a lever operated Rulon offset disc drag. The finish is a matte black. I used one of these for years before I started this business and have to say that they were a very nice reel at the prices for which they were being sold. This one shows evidence of use only in the reelfoot area. It comes with the original case and instructions. Excellent. RH or LH. $195.00.

  7. Phos Precision PH-5LA. From the late 1990s comes Phos Reels. They advertised their Yukon model more than this reel, but this one was the high-end product. 3.8"x1.0" and 10.2oz. I don't have factory specs, but this reel appears that it would handle a WF8F and 200yds of 20#. It has a ventilated spool, solid backplate, and an aramid (Kevlar) drag disc. It has a modified drawbar disc drag system. It even has a wooden handle. One would be tempted to say that the reel is a copy of the original Abel models only with a large arbor. Internally, the reel is somewhat different, however. It has no outgoing click. It comes with the original neoprene reelcase, box, and instruction manual. Except for some very tiny marks on the edge of the reelfoot this reel appears to be unused. Excellent+. RH or LH. $295.00.

  8. Storm Reels MK5. Storm Reels is now Magla Reels, but this one has Storm Reels on the backplate and the Cordura reelcase. This was sent to me so that I could see the differences between it and the LA9/10 that I'm closing out for them. This model is also being updated, and I should have both on my site before too long. 3.9"x1.0" and 9.2oz. It will hold a WF8F and 200yds of 20#. The spool release knob is on the handle side and is threaded into the spindle. It also serves as the drag knob. The drag is a fairly large piece of cork bearing against a plate of Teflon. It features rim control in addition to the disc drag. There are now a couple of these available in both LH and RH retrieve. The warranty will be in your name. New, with case, instruction manual and box. $225.00.

  9. Magla LA 9/10. This is an introductory offer for Magla reels here in the US. Magla reels used to be called Storm reels and are designed and manufactured in South Africa. I've become a Magla dealer because I really like the high-end features at the very modest price. This is an honest large arbor drawbar drag system reel with a cork disc. It has an outgoing click and is built ruggedly to withstand modest abuse. 3.85"x1.3" and 9.5oz. It is listed as holding a WF9F & 230yds of 30# and a WF10F & 200yds of 30#. My experimenting would suggest that it might be just slightly less than that. A full 100' saltwater flyline changes capacities. I got a WF9F and about 225yds of 20# on mine. It is not a tarpon reel, at least not for the big boys, but I would use it on permit, large bones, and Atlantic salmon. The finish is a semi-gloss black (one of them is closer to a matte black if that is of interest to you.) The introductory price for what I have on hand is $295.00. You will not find a better built reel for this price anywhere. You can find some that have prettier finishes and that might look a little sexier overall, but this reel is for someone who doesn't care all that much about super gloss in his or her reels; just that it works when needed. I have 1 LH and 1 RH left in stock. That was the remaining inventory from the last run of Storm reels and they have no identifying engraving of either Storm or Magla. The new Magla LA9/10, which really is not all that much different, can be seen in the NEW REELS section of this site. By the way, all Magla reels feature a ten year warranty against defective materials and workmanship. RH or LH. New. $295.00.

  10. STH Airweight LDL #10. A well-made machined flyreel from Argentina. At one time, STH was just about the best selling reel on the market. The original Airweight had gear and pawl only and it was minimally adjustable. This update adds a synthetic disc drag and a lever drag on the backplate that goes from free spool to some pretty serious drag in about 240*. 4.0"x0.80" and 8.0oz. It will hold a WF9F & 200+yds of 20#. It would make a very nice bonefish, salmon/steelhead, or striper reel. Anything, actually, that can be pursued with a 9-10 weight setup. It is anodized all black with engraved white lettering. It has some minor marks on it, especially around the reelfoot, but I would have to consider the overall condition to be Excellent. It comes in the original leather zippered case. RH or LH. $150.00.

  11. Bo Mohlin #3Wide Contemporary Direct Drive. I've seen this reel called several names, including Seatrout. However, the Seatrout had an S-handle and a different drag system. This is a modern direct drive reel except there is no outgoing click nor rim control. 3.55"x 1.4" and 10.1oz. It'll hold a WF10F and 200yds of 30#. It would also make a fine 7/8 or 8/9 weight speyreel. It has a black frame and gold spool with stainless pillars. The dragknob is small (so it's out of the way) and is on the handle side. The drag is a large piece of cork in a drawbar disc drag system. This would also be a very suitable reel for large bonefish, permit, jacks, false albacore, etc. Like many of Bo's reels that were ordered directly from him, this one has the previous owner's name engraved on the backplate. It does not show any evidence of having been used. It comes in Bo's beautiful hard leather case that would cost about $250.00 on its own. Excellent+. LH only. $695.00.

  12. Megoff 10/12LA Ti. An all titanium Megoff that is a current model. It'll make a fine tarpon or sailfish reel, or could be used for speylines up to about 9 or 10 weight. 4.15"x1.5" and 13.2oz. It should hold a WF12F and 200yds of 30#. Titanium is completely saltwater corrosion proof and significantly more resistant to scratches and small dings compared to aluminum. It has rim control and a strong synthetic drag. It is silent in both directions. It comes with a SPARE SPOOL that has never been lined. It does not come with any case, box, or paperwork. These retailed for about $1600.00 without the spare spool a few years ago. It is in excellent condition. LH only. $995.00.SOLD

  13. FinNor Wedding Cake #3. This is one of the truly legendary reels in flyfishing. Designed by Gar Wood for FinNor, it was THE direct drive reel for saltwater use until Seamaster finally came out with a one in the 1970s. Unlike later FinNor models, it has the drag knob on the backplate where most users want it. 4.0"x1.0" and 12.6oz. It'll hold a WF10 and about 250yds of 30#. I've seen this model listed as holding more, but I haven't been able to pull it off unless your flyline is cut back. It has the beautiful gold FinNor anodizing with stainless pillars. The drag is a decent sized piece of cork. Like all high-end saltwater fly reels at the time, there is no outgoing click nor is there any rim control. I've seen quite a few of these over the years and most have seen quite a bit of use. Back in the '60s and '70s guys bought these to use, not to collect. The nice thing about this reel is its condition. There are some very minor "boat marks" and even more minor marks on the reelfoot. It even has a blank nameplate. It is definitely in at least excellent condition. LH only. $1995.00.

  14. HarrisonSW Los Roques. Felton Harrison was the first person to use titanium in a commercially available fly reel that I know of. It's not the frame or spool that's titanium. It's the pawl, spindle, and a few other small parts that normally would be of much heavier stainless steel. I believe that only about 104 reels were ever sold with the HarrisonSW name. They were available in four sizes and in both direct drive and anti-reverse. Suffice it to say that all the models are quite scarce. 3.7"x1.3" and 9.4oz. It will hold a WF9F and 250yds of 30# backing. It features beautiful gold anodizing with a large impregnated wood handle. The drag knob is on the handle side. I doubt very many of these have ever been used, and this one appears to have never been on a rod or been lined. These have been seriously sought after by collectors, especially in this condition. It could, of course, make someone a nice bonefish reel or be used for stripers, perhaps. Excellent+. LH only. $1295.00.

  15. Saracione Gold & Black Limited Edition Saltwater Series Tarpon. Only twenty sets of the Gold & Black Saltwater Series were ever done. This is the Tarpon model, the largest size, from a split up set. 4.20"x1.10" and 14.3oz. It will hold a WF12F and 300yds of 30#. This reel was designed to be a tribute to the Gar Wood FinNor Wedding Cake reels. It has a serious cork drag and unlike the Wedding Cakes it has an outgoing click. The Limited Edition models were done in high gloss gold frames with deep glossy black spools. The drag knob even has detents in it. First class all the way. It comes in the original box and reelbag with a warranty card. This one is RH, but Bill Archuleta has been known to convert these for about $60.00 including shipping. Mint. $1495.00.

  16. Sir Francis Element Size V reel. Sir Francis is an Italian company trying to get a foothold in the US. I've seen their products for two straight years at the Denver dealer show and they do have some nice items. I ordered this reel as a sample and actually like it quite a bit. However, it is made in China and I have, at least for now, decided not to go that route. 4.45"x1.3" and 9.1oz. It will hold a WF12 and 275yds of backing. It is large arbor, has rim control, a fairly sturdy spool release mechanism, a large drag knob on the backplate with detents, has both an ingoing and an outgoing click, and is anodized a rich blue color. It would make both a serviceable saltwater reel for species like tarpon and dorado, but also a very functional spey reel. It comes in a box with a very nice neoprene case and an instruction sheet. Brand new. Currently RH, but can be converted. 30% off retail. $195.00.SOLD

  17. LH Design Topaz. Here's one that it pains me to sell. LH Design made three of these several years ago. This is serial number 002 of the three. It initially was going to be called the Belize, but finally ended up with the Topaz name. It is a large arbor anti-reverse with rim control. There aren't many of those available. It has a cork drag system that can stand up to the big boys. 4.45"x1.2" and 15.2oz. It will hold a WF12F and 225yds of 30lb. Like almost all LH Design reels, it is made from pure titanium. Considering that their new saltwater reels are going to be starting at close to $8000.00, this one, considering the extremely low numbers made, would seem like a "steal." There are a few very small marks on it as I did use it tarpon fishing a couple times, but the condition would still have to be considered at least excellent. RH only. $4995.00.

  18. Seamaster Marlin I. To most of you reading this I don't need to sell you on a Seamaster. As far as I know, it was the first flyreel that featured a dual-mode design. This one is only about three years old as it has the new deep blue hardcoat finish that almost would require a carbide tipped chisel to make a mark on it. Seamasters are back to being a multi-year wait proposition. 4.2"x1.55" and 16.5oz. Seamaster lists it as holding a WF12 & 700yds of 20# which is probably does. More practically, though, it will hold a billfish type head, a short 60ft. running line and about 500yds of 30# or 750yds of 50# GSP. Cork drawbar drag system without rim control, but the entire spoolface can be "thumbed" since there is no spinning handle. It has the original zipped case. Excellent+. RH only (it is quite expensive to convert it to LH). $1895.00.SOLD

  19. Megoff MDS LA ti 12/14. This is the last reel in this size that will be made. The rest of the series is going to remain available, but Megoff told me there would be no more 12/14 models. 4.55"x1.75" and 15.4oz. It'll hold a WF12F & 300yds+ of 30#. I think it's best use might be as a bluewater flyreel. For sailfish, wahoo, and fly rod sized marlin this would be an outstanding choice. Just use 50# GSP backing, a shooting head, and a short running line and you'd probably have room for about 600yds of backing. This is completely titanium. Unlike many of the early reels in this line, this one has an outgoing click. New reels on the market of this size in titanium cost from $7000-$10,000.00. Just check out the new Hardy Zane ti for confirmation of that fact. This has rim control, a well designed multi-disc synthetic drag and a large spoke shaped drag knob on the backplate. Spare spools will not be available for it. Remember all the other models in the series are still being made so that means service for it, should it ever be needed, shouldn't be much of a problem. New from inventory. RH only (it is not easily convertible.) $1495.00.

Jack Samson contacted me a few months ago about selling five of his Charlton reels. Jack has been a prolific author which includes two books on permit fly fishing
and also the first book on billfishing with a fly. He has also edited several fine books and for years was the editor-in-chief of Field & Stream magazine. All of Jack's reels have his name engraved on the dragplate and most are very early examples of each model. Jack loves his Charltons and many pictures of him fishing throughout the world proudly display a Charlton. As far as value is concerned, it was difficult to determine a fair price, and I got estimates all over the place from others in the know. Considering the high prices almost any Charlton is selling for these days, I believe the prices on these are very fair. Only you can tell Jack and me if that is true, but I'm guessing these will all be gone soon. Jack will happily send an autographed book with each reel sold. Only three of them remain. New as of 8/31/06---lower PRICES.

  20. Charlton 8500SS 0.8. This is one of five Charlton reels I've received from well known flyfishing author and editor Jack Samson. His signature is engraved on the drag knob. This might be the most popular size ever of the various Charlton reels. It's a perfect 8-9 weight reel. Though it shows some sign of use, and has a reelfoot that was repaired at Scientific Anglers, it is in excellent-- condition. This is a very early CORK drag Charlton. Each of these has a collector's premium attached due to the Samson connection. LH only (though Scientific Anglers will convert it for $50.00). $2495.00.

  21. Charlton 8500SS 1.2. This is one of five Charlton reels I've received from well known flyfishing author and editor Jack Samson. His signature is engraved on the drag knob. This might be the second most popular size ever of the various Charlton reels. It is a perfect 10-11 weight reel. Though it shows some sign of use, it is in excellent condition. Each of these has a collector's premium attached due to the Samson connection. LH only (though Scientific Anglers will convert it for $50.00). $2495.00.

  22. Charlton 8550C w/Tarpon spool. This is one of five Charlton reels I've received from well known flyfishing author and editor Jack Samson. His signature is engraved on the drag knob. It was one of the first 8550C reels shipped. Though it shows some sign of use, it is in excellent condition. It is a superb 12/13 weight reel and will handle lots of speyfishing applications as well. Each of these has a collector's premium attached due to the Samson connection. LH only (though Scientific Anglers will convert it for $50.00). $2495.00.

  23. Mt. Rainier MagnumMt. Rainier Magnum II. Heading out for some bluewater fly fishing? Mont Schroeder designed this reel back in the mid-90’s. He originally made several sizes but eventually realized that just two would do the job. The last run of these was given a black anodizing because black holds up better to rugged use. 4.750”x2.125” and 42oz. It will hold a shooting head, running line, and around 800yds of 30# backing and well over 1000yds of 50# GSP. Like all of Mont’s reels to this point, it is an anti-reverse. Bluewater fishing is one place where anti-reverse makes a lot of sense. There is
only one of these left and it is new. There is no other reel like it. Grab it now if you're interested. RH or LH. 50% off the original $1100.00 price. $550.00.

  27. Orvis Graphite "One Weight." As far as I know, this is one of the first one weight rods. 7 1/2', 2 piece, 1 3/8oz, for a one weight line. The only signs of use are a slightly soiled cork handle. The graphite, guides, and wraps appear as-new. It comes with the original cloth rodbag and black and gold aluminum rod tube. A very nice small stream rod. Excellent. $225.00.

  28. Thomas & Thomas HS 862-2. A two-weight/two piece in the crisp Horizon series. Appointed the way the top T&T rods have always been done, this features an anodized aluminum uplocking reelseat with a wooden insert (bubinga?) One of the few two weights out there that actually has some power behind it and which will also cast a three weight very nicely. This is NEW and has the original rodsock and aluminum tube. $350.00.

  29. Thomas & Thomas XL 906-4. An outstanding rod at a very attractive price. A nine footer for six weight in four pieces. This would be an outstanding rod for rainbows in Alaska, trout in the White River in Arkansas, even for some grilse fishing. Features a low profile matte finished blank and an anodized aluminum reelseat. This one is NEW and comes with the original rodsock and tube. $275.00.

  30. Hardy Salmon Fly De-Luxe 15' 4" 10 weight 3-piece. A powerful speyrod featuring a cork insert reelseat, spigot ferrules, standard (non-snake) guides, and a deep brown blank with dark red wraps. It comes with the original Hardy rod bag but no tube. Excellent. $250.00.

  33. Canon EF camera body. The first Canon SLR camera with electronic features. It dates from the late 1970s and early 1980s. It features a vertical shutter so that flash synch is at 1/125 instead of the normal 1/60 for most other cameras of the day. The shutter is mechanical which means the camera can shoot photos even with dead batteries. The only thing that will not work with dead batteries is the meter. The only two cameras I've ever listed on here have sold immediately. I know most everyone is turning to digital these days, and I'm slowly heading in that direction, too. However, I don't know if I'll ever give up film entirely. I just simply have too many film camera bodies lying around and decided it was time to get rid of one or two. There is some slight brassing in the corners, but otherwise it is in excellent condition and works perfectly. I've even included brand new batteries. This is for the camera body only--no lens or flash. $150.00.

  34. Columbia Yellowstone vest. At the time this one was purchased it had the most pockets of any vest on the market. It holds a ton. In fact, it holds so much I now have to sell it because I have health issues that pretty much prevent me from wearing any vest. The few times I do it is a shorty ultralight model. This Yellowstone also has a yoke that covers the neck and shoulders with a waterproof fabric. I believe it was Gore-tex, but I'm not positive. All zippers are YKK and work perfectly. The color is tan. XL. $25.00.

  35. Trout Traps vest. I remember these, but couldn't determine if they are made any more. A hot weather vest that is mostly mesh. Depending upon how one counts pockets this one has about a dozen and a half. It has a comfortable collar and appears to be very well made. It is made in the USA, which isn't true any longer of a lot of the vests available. Size XL. $25.00.

  36. Orvis single rod/reel case. A dark red case designed to hold one rod/reel combo of about 9' and two piece. Very well constructed and shows almost no sign of use. $29.00.

  37. Olympus Infinity Twin 35mm film camera. This is a weather resistant model designed to be safe in a strong rain or an accidental very brief dunking. It has both a 35mm and 70mm lens which is a slight wide angle to slight telephoto. It's seen a lot of use but still works perfectly. VG+ condition externally. It uses two Lithium 3 volt cells. It comes with the original strap and instruction manual. $40.00.

  38. Forgotten Flies. The famous book by Paul Schmookler and published by Complete Sportsman. This is the first edition, and I've seen it priced everywhere from $400.00 for a used book in "good" condition up to prices approaching $1000.00. This is in "unread" condition. $450.00.

  39. Angling Report Newsletters. This is the complete set from Vol. 1 through Vol. 18. Over two hundred newsletters total that ends with the December, 2005 issue. I just don't find time to read everything I get so I let my subscription run out. If you travel a lot for your flyfishing or would like to in the future, this set can be a valuable resource. Each has been three-hole punched and is ready to be put in the binder of your choice. A one year subscription these days runs well over $40.00 so this price seems fair. All have been read but not abused. $100.00.

RECENT ARRIVALS-These will have photos available when I get a chance to get them done.

  41. Cortland 140D Magnum Disc Drag. An inexpensive reel that has enough capacity to use for speylines up to about 8 weight. 4.0"x0.95" and 7.7oz. It will hold a WF10F and 200yds of 20#. It has a simple and easily converted "disc" drag. It's perfect for freshwater work where high-end drag reels aren't always necessary. All black aluminum. Brand new in the box. RH or LH. $75.00.

  42. Scientific Anglers System 2L 23-L. The current version (but from the UK) of the enormously popular System 2. SA went through most of this past season without much inventory due to the manufacturer, British Fly Reels, moving the operation from the UK to China. 2.75"x0.475" and 3.7oz. It will hold a WF3F and 50yds of 20#. Black. A very nice light trout reel or for use on fish like bluegills and perch. Brand new in the box. RH or LH. $95.00.

  43. Scientific Anglers System 2L 78-L. The current version (but from the UK) of the enormously popular System 2. SA went through most of this past season without much inventory due to the manufacturer, British Fly Reels, moving the operation from the UK to China. 3.3"x0.80" and 4.9oz. It will hold a WF8F and 120yds of 20#. A fine reel for large trout, bass, and even some steelhead work. All black. Brand new and in the box. RH or LH. $95.00.

  44. Scientific Anglers System 2L 89-L. The current version (but from the UK) of the enormously popular System 2. SA went through most of this past season without much inventory due to the manufacturer, British Fly Reels, moving the operation from the UK to China. 3.3"x1.0" and 5.0oz. It will hold a WF9F and 180yds of 20#. Bass, steelhead, and a whole lot of other uses come to mind with this one. It could even be a backup reel for Atlantic salmon fishing and has the capacity to be a backup for bonefishing. All black. Brand new and in the box. RH or LH. $95.00.

  45. Tide Reels 6.8. I'm hoping to carry the Tide Reels multiplying saltwater model in the near future. I won't be carrying this non-multiplier unless they add at least an outgoing click to the design. 3.50"x1.275" and 8.1oz. It'll hold a WF8F and probably about 150yds of 20#. It's a rugged large arbor design with a quick release spool, rim control, rear mounted drag knob, and a double handle as opposed to having a single handle and a counterbalance. This would make a nice 6-8 saltwater reel for species like ladyfish, seatrout, small reds, and Spanish mackerel. If you like reels that are totally silent yet have substantial drag, you'll love this one. It comes in its own box with a nylon pouch. It is brand new at well under retail. RH or LH. $150.00.SOLD

  46. Sage 6126 3-piece. This is the European style "spey" rod made from graphite IV. These lighter weight and shorter speyrods are becoming very popular. You can use a 6/7/8 Windcutter or a 6/7 or 7/8 Delta Spey on it. However, these European rods are stiffer than many speyrods and perhaps cast best with shooting heads like those by Guideline, Loop and several other companies. The European rods also overhead cast quite well and for that the Rio Outbound and Airflo 40+ Beach lines are also often used. This rod has only been lawn cast and is being sold because the owner wants a 4- piecer for traveling purposes. It's being offered at well below retail. It comes with the original sock and tube. $525.00.

  47. Saracione Limited Edition Black & Gold Saltwater Series set. Several years ago Joe made a limited run of his three saltwater models, called the Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon and sold them in a limited edition run of 20 sets with matching serial numbers. This is set #12 and is set up for LH retrieve. These were Joe's tribute to the Gar Wood FinNor Wedding Cake models and look very similar to them right down to the stainless pillars. He added an outgoing click and put a detent system into the drag adjustment. All three feature large cork discs and a sturdy gear and pawl clutch. The Bonefish is 3.50"x1.05" and 11.10z. It will hold a WF7F & 150yds of 20#. The Permit is 3.85"x1.05" and 12.3oz. It will hold a WF10F and 225yds of 30#. Finally, the Tarpon is 4.20"x1.10" and 14.3oz. It will hold a WF12F and 300yds of 30#. Only about half of these reels were sold in complete sets so the long term investment should be excellent. These are mint, in the box, and even have blank warranty cards included. LH only. $4500.00.

  48. Schukken Design RP 8/9. Though I only feature Ids Schukken's reels in titanium these days, he did and still does make aluminum models. This was my favorite. I used one identical to it except it was in the two-tone gold color (this one is silver) for a lot of the single-handed salmon fishing I used to do in Iceland. The drag is superb and the outgoing click one of the nicest you'll ever hear. Being a raised pillar model it does not have rim control, but the drag is so good you really won't miss it. 3.4" (across the frame not including the pillars)x1.15" and 8.2oz. It'll hold a WF9F & 200yds of 30#. It would also hold a 6/7/8 short belly speyline and about 150yds of 30#. It comes with the original leather pouch. When I hold it up to my "truth detector" light I see one or two very minor marks on it. I doubt you'd even notice them. The reelfoot suggests that it may never have been put on a reelseat. I'll call it Excellent+. LH only. $450.00.
