Just Reels

Scierra

From Denmark, Scierra has been well established in Europe for quite a few years. Within the last year or so they have been working to market their gear in North America. Like many European companies, they feature almost anything related to fly fishing, from rods, reels, lines, waders, wading jackets, wading boots, to many other items. Only a small portion of their overall catalog is being imported initially, but it includes most of the gear mentioned above. As is usual, I'll be featuring and stocking their two highest end fly reels. I can get anything in their catalog for you however, as they have established an importer/distributor in the US and that should make anything they intend to market here available with virtually no wait. Actually, I had been trying to bring in their reels for the last couple of years as I truly do like what they're doing. I've used both the TX2 and the CTC and can tell you they are very well designed, substantially built, and have beautiful finishes. They are also quite similar in design with the biggest difference being the drag knob. Where the CTC has a traditional 1.25" center-mounted drag knob, the TX2 has a wide knurled ring that extends around the entire circumference of the frame. One revolution takes you from lock to lock and the top-end drag on both of these models is quite a bit more than what you'll often find on European reels. On the largest models I've measured it at more than 10lb of drag pressure, and it's smooth. I'd have no trouble considering the 911 size of either model for tarpon fishing. I've caught several large false albacore with the CTC 911 and it was begging for more. Both models are machined from 6061-T6 aluminum. The TX2 has a beautiful highly polished deep blue anodizing while the CTC has more of a satiny smoke grey finish. The main shaft is 303 stainless and the spool rides on two double-sealed ball bearings. The drag is carbon fibre, stainless, and Teflon and has less than 1% start-up inertia. Spool release is easy with the center-mounted knurled knob on the handle side and there are no loose parts to lose. Well sealed reels are becoming quite popular and many who fish the surf, like in the Northeast US for stripers and blues, consider a sealed clutch/drag almost mandatory. I'm going to be setting up several spools of the 911 models for speyfishing, too. This size has plenty of capacity to handle Skagit and Scandinavian head systems, as well as the shorthead full spey line up to about an 8/9/10. These are currently in stock---so call or e-mail me today. Contact me if you're interested in any other products that Scierra makes.
