Ids
Schukken is another superior craftsman from The Netherlands. His
reels come in two materials, barstock aluminum and "pure" titanium.
Currently, Just Reels is featuring only the titanium models, though
his aluminum reels will still be available. The TR-O, his trout
reel, features an open frame with the spool being held in place
by friction. A TR-C is also available with an enclosed frame (just
like the Seatrout) at a slightly higher price. The Seatrout is essentially
a larger version of the trout models with a full frame and a coin-slotted
screw for spool retention. It also has greater capacity and more
drag surface. The ST #11 makes for a terrific spey reel.
The Anti-reverse models come in three sizes with all of the mechanism
for this reel on the handle side and the exposed rim on the back
side. Quite an interesting approach. It looks elegant, has a very
smooth multi-disc carbon fibre drag, and a two-way click mechanism. Spools are
easily removed, being held on with that same coin-slotted screw.
The spools revolve on stainless ball bearings for superb smoothness.
The AR #10 is a legitimate 12 weight tarpon reel
and would also make a dandy anti-reverse spey reel. It should be
noted that Mr. Schukken also makes exquisite cane rods. If this
appeals to you give me a call and I'll get you more information.
On occasion I may have some Schukken Design reels in stock. However,
normally we'll be looking at placing an order and a wait of anywhere
from a few weeks to several months. I do not anticipate a multi-year
wait for any of his products. Mr. Schukken and I have made every
attempt to make the price of these titanium reels reasonable. The 2008 price increases are totally due to the weak American dollar when compared to the Euro. I've absorbed part of that increase in order to better facilitate my customers owning one of these outstanding reels. Please
note that Ids commented to me that some of these dimensions, capacities,
and weights are approximate.
Ids' newest reel is the Classic Titanium. He makes a similar reel in aluminum he calls the RP, for Raised Pillar. This is the first time he's done a raised pillar reel in titanium and it is really well done. It is one of the few raised pillars reels available new today with a disc drag, and it is the same highly sensitive drag he uses on his TR models. It features an outgoing click which can be disabled if you prefer. For this year. it is going to be available in the #5-6 size. Other sizes may be available in the future.
