Maurice
Noel Reels
Maurice
lives in Quebec, Canada and makes outstanding salmon reels. He currently
has two different salmon reels, each of which is among the finest
reel designs available anywhere. All the models have a drum and
brake shoes drag system where two cams and four heavy duty springs press the shoes against
the central drum. This is a very reliable system and is similar
to those used in salmon reels for many decades. All drums, ratchets,
gears, spindles, and counterbalances are hardened stainless steel,
and sideplates are either Delrin or titanium. In the model listings
SA stands for single action and M for multiplying. All of his salmon
reels are available in both single action and multiplying models.
Maurice is currently focusing on making reels in titanium only.
This has been by far the best selling style for him. The TD model
has a cross pillar frame, foot, and handle made from titanium
with Delrin sideplates and an aluminum spool (add $300.00 for a titanium spool on the TD models.) The TT version even has titanium spools and sideplates.
They will be available only on an as-ordered basis with a 50% deposit
and waiting period required. Every attempt has been made to feature
these reels at reasonable prices. Mr. Noel and I have both pitched
in to bring these prices as low as possible. Coming soon will be
the photos for Maurice's two new titanium trout reels. The model
#150 TD and TT features a smaller
and simplified version of his salmon drag. In this reel, a titanium spool for the TD version is $200.00. Also notice that two
sizes of his aluminum salmon reels are once again listed but may not be
available in 2008 (SA200B&S and SA500B&S).

The models indicated
as "Spey" are Maurice's spey reels and are designed to
take a line comparable to the Rio Windcutter spey line (Airflo Delta,
SA Shorthead Spey, etc.) with the capacity for backing as shown
above. Spare spools are NOT available for any Noel reel.
All Noel reels come with a corduroy pouch. They can now also be ordered with a tanned leather vom Hofe style reelcase. For the trout models the case is $250.00 and for the salmon reels it's $350.00. The salmon models can also be ordered with a Hardy style leather case for $525.00.
All the prices shown above are approximate. Actual prices will be determined when Maurice confirms the order and will reflect the relative values of the American and Canadian dollars. It shouldn't vary by too much and may as likely be less than what is shown in the table.
