Hayden Reels

Hayden=Simplicity

Just Reels brought the Hayden reels, made by Terry Hayden in Australia, to North America in 1999. Through a decision to try and sell direct the ability to market them disappeared for me a few years ago. Now, that opportunity has returned, and I'm proud to say I once again feature perhaps the finest anti-reverse reel made on the planet. They're made from 6061 barstock, by hand (no CNC machinery) with stainless steel hardware. The new anodizing is Type III and is a deep, rich, dark gray color. The drag adjustment is a lever on the handle side of the reel and adjusts very easily. The drag settings are numbered and are repeatable. I've always thought the Hayden drag system was outstanding. It's one of the few drags on the market that can be set in excess of 20 lb and the spool will not lock up. There is drag exerted on both sides of the spool and the drag material is cork on a free floating carbon fibre disc. The clutch/bearing system in the reel is sealed and the reel is virtually maintenance-free. Hayden features a thirty year warranty on materials and workmanship, and it is transferable from owner to owner. Terry's direct drive reel, the Stryker model, can also be special ordered. It is essentially the same reel that TFO features except that it is bench-made in Australia by Terry. It is therefore more expensive, but still worth every dime. Understand, these are ruggedly made reels that'll stand up to some tough use and the weights listed below reflect that fact. Incidentally, the weights shown are different than on Terry's own website, but are accurate according to my postal scale.

Due to the strengthing American dollar as opposed to the Australian dollar, these prices are lower than before. In fact, today's retail price is about what the wholesale price used to be. Both Terry and I are getting hammered on this, but you will like the result. For instance, the Pursuit #6 price through 2008 was $815.00US and today is $725.00US. Call me today if interested as it can go the other way pretty quickly, too.

Please note: Terry has discontinued the Salmon, and the Pursuit #2, #3, and #4. He is eventually going to replace them with another reel which will cover several of those sizes. I have a single Pursuit #5 left in stock. It will remain at the price shown until it sells. I can assure you the new reel that will replace these will be more expensive. Terry has raised the prices on the Pursuit #5 to $895.00US. I will keep my price the same (as shown below) at least through the end of the year or until my present inventory sells out. Call or e-mail me now for a chance to acquire what I consider the finest anti-reverse reel available at a quite reasonable price.The last time we communicated it sounded like Terry is going to try and make one reel model which will cover line weights from 8 through 12+. He found what I've often mentioned, and that is that anti-reverse reels don't sell well in the smaller sizes. Due to world economic conditions, he is not placing this at a high priority right now.

Pursuit #3, #2, Salmon

For those of you who love AR in a smaller reel, Terry also makes a "salmon" model for six and seven weight lines. I've never had much call for AR reels in this size, so I'm not keeping that model in inventory, but I can order one for you if you can wait a few weeks for delivery. Retail price on this model is $460.00. Spare spool prices will be entered into the table when I have them.

Prices are subject to fluctuation due to the Australian/US dollar exchange rate. This table was last updated on 7/24/09.
