GAIA Reels
From Sweden comes the GAIA reels from Imago Flyfishing. These reels have been designed for GAIA by Alex Kaplun of Megoff fame and have some similarities to the Megoff TR series of reels. These are superbly designed large arbor reels that border on being weightless. The finish is a satiny silver that is quite handsome, but yet doesn't have that mint dime bright finish that can spook fish in the right situations. Just Reels is the exclusive US dealer for these reels at this point and only three hundred of each size have been made. For those of you who are looking for something simple, where there's very little that can go wrong, you've got it. The clicker "drag" works in both directions so that the only thing determining left hand or right hand retrieve is which ever way you you wind on the line. I've used my 4/5 extensivlely on my trips to the Missouri River and have caught a number of fish that have gone well into the backing. For one thing, it might have the most pleasant sounding outgoing click of any trout reel ever. These are terrific, European made reels at an affordable price. And I should note that they come with a gorgeous semi-hard leather case.

I expect that spare spools will eventually be available. I've got no information as yet as to when that will be.
