INFORMATION REGARDING PURCHASING MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT

Almost without exception, what's listed in the Miscellaneous section has only one of each available. If you want it, don't hesitate before contacting me. When it's gone that's it. In most cases, what you see here cannot be replaced easily. I offer the same fifteen day turnaround for these products as I do new reels. PLEASE do not abuse this. Many other dealers have given up offering returns on used reels. Though sometimes I refer to this as the used section, fully half of the listings are actually closeouts of discontinued models, colors, or where I have decided not to carry a particular reel any longer. My inventory and the business-owned reels then become expendable at excellent savings for you. The conditions listed are accurate. In fact, most of my customers tell me that I am conservative on my condition reports.New reels are just that. Mint means that a reel may have been lined, but it has never been fished. Excellent usually means you'd be hard pressed to tell that it was used, but in fact it has been. Several of the reels on this list were intended to be used by me, but either never were or were used only once or twice. Since I am meticulous about taking care of my equipment, they are then almost always indistinguishable from new.

MISC. REELS FOR SALE

This list is accurate as of 2/1/10. More photos will be up very shortly.

  1. Bradley Brookie Pillar. Essentially the same size as the Brookie but in a raised pillar style. 2.375"x0.9" and 4.5oz. It'll carry a DT2F and 10yds of 20#. Brand new from inventory at 30+% off. RH or LH. $250.00.

  2. Willow Reel from Mystic Outdoors. These are beautiful traditional S-handled reels from a Michigan company. This one has ebony sideplates with a gorgeous epoxy coating that makes the black look like wet paint. 2.75"x0.80" and 4.6oz. It'll hold a WF4F and 50yds of 20#. It comes with the original hard leather case and paperwork. This is a new reel that has never been lined. Currently RH, but can be converted. Almost 30% off the retail price. $495.00.

  3. Hardy "The Lightweight." This one features a two screw spool latch, has no separate lineguard, and has a solid spool. 3.2"x0.75" and 3.8oz. It'll hold a DT5F and 50yds of backing. A perfect trout reel for a 4 or 5 weight rod. These British made reels are becoming more sought after by Hardy aficionados as Hardy gradually moves production from the UK to Asia. This one works perfectly mechanically, but shows the normal edgewear around the frame. I would rate the cosmetic condition as VG. It does not have a reelcase or box included. Currently set up for RH, but is easily changed. $295.00.

  4. LH Design BB#5. One of the most exquisite reels made today and rarely seen on the secondary market. The BB models are the same size at the B models, but have a two-way click system rather than the Synchrotech drag found in the B reels. I've never been convinced that one really needs a drag in reels of this size, at least not most of the time. The advantage is that leaving the drag out eliminates some weight and also removes the RH/LH retrieve issue. These are completely made from "pure" titanium. 3.0"x0.80" and 5.9oz. It'll hold a WF5F and 90yds of 20#. Even more interesting is the serial number---001. Now Leen begins each model with 001 so this serial number means it's the first BB#5 made, not the first LH reel or even the first in the entire BB series. Nevertheless, it's not often one can get a chance at a 001 reel at anything close to a realistic price. I'd rate the condition as Excellent+, but there are some tiny surface scratches that can barely be seen if held up to a good light. Since there's no coating or anodizing on most Ti reels, almost all of them show slight imperfections even when new. $1695.00.

  5. Charlton 8350C with 1/5 spool. Another example of one of the most superb trout reels ever made. Unlike some of the others listed here, this one has seen a fair amount of use. It has some rash on the bottom of the frame and a very small mark on the reelfoot. It was also sent back to Jack Charlton so that the minimum drag would be closer to being freespool, which it now is. At freespool, however, the incoming click fades in and out. It has not affected the outgoing click and the fading disappears when even the smallest amount of drag is placed on it. There is no reelcase or box with it either. Overall condition is excellent--, but it operates just fine. Currently RH, but SA will change it over for a fee. $1500.00.

  6. Charlton 8350C with the 1/5 spool. These were less expensive than other Charlton models when they were still available new. However, far fewer of them were made than there were of the 8450C so I've seen very few of them the last year or two. I've said often that this is the finest serious trout reel ever made. In fact, it is way more trout reel than most trout fishing ever requires. However, there is some pretty intense demand for these so don't put off contacting me if you're interested. RH or LH. New in box. $1800.00.

  7. Bellinger/Saracione Boxed Trout set. The complete set of five trout reels in a very low serial number and featuring a gorgeous wooden display box. The reels are 2.5", 2.75", 3.0" , and 3.25" in both a Narrow and a Wide version. They range from a 2 weight up to a 7 weight in capacity. The pillars, sidebands, and some trim are German nickel/silver, the sideplates are Delrin, the spool is aluminum and bronze, and most other parts, including the screws are stainless. I don't recall ever seeing this complete set available on the secondary market. The wooden box is like a piece of furniture, and there is even a blank warranty card! These are set up for RH currently, but can be converted. $8995.00.

  8. Orvis Vortex 5/6. This is one of the original Vortex models in the glossy black finish. It comes with a SPARE SPOOL. 3.2"x1.0" and 7.6oz. It'll hold a WF6F and 100yds of 20#. With the superb drag of these reels it could be used for large trout (the owner fished the Missouri and other water near it in Montana) and could also be used for light saltwater fishing. It shows some (not very much) rash on the frame (probably from being placed on the rocks in Montana) but operates superbly. It comes with the original boxes and reel/spool cases. Cosmetically rated at Excellent--, but perfect mechanically. Currently RH, but can be converted. $295.00.SOLD

  9. Charlton 8450C with 5/6 spool. Another Charlton 8450C with what was, by far, the most popular spool for trout fishing. Maybe the finest trout reel ever. This is new, in the box. RH or LH. $1800.00.

  10. Charlton 8450C with 7/8 spool. Another Charlton 8450C with what was, by far, the most popular spool for grilse, steelhead, and light saltwater fishing. Maybe the finest reel in this size range ever. This is new, in the box. RH or LH. $1800.00.

  11. Charlton 8450C with all three spools. This is a combination that's rarely found anymore. It's only the second one I've come across since Scientific Anglers quit marketing the Charlton reels several years ago. The frame and all three spools are spotless. I cannot distinguish them from new. The frame and the 5/6 spool comes in a correctly labeled box, the correct case, and with all the original paperwork. The 7/8 is in a Charlton spool box that is marked 5/6 and has the correct case, and the 3/4 spool comes without a box and in a neoprene spool case. 8450C models are easily changed from RH/LH. Excellent+. $2995.00.

  12. Orvis SSS 7/8 Featherweight. The same reel that was also marketed as the Inks Estuary. I owned one of those before I started this business and used it for several years. It's a very well made reel made mostly from anodized aluminum, 303 stainless, and urethane rubber. The drag adjustment is on the bottom of the frame and has 5 steps from perhaps 1/2 lb to around 3 lb. In other words, there is no free spool and there's not enough top end drag to pursue tuna with it. However, for salmon, steelhead, and light saltwater fish it is a fine drag system. It comes with spare parts for the drag system and a SPARE SPOOL. 3.3"x0.95" and 5.6oz. It will hold a WF8F and 150yds of 20#. The reel has been used, but barely shows any signs of it. It comes in the original box, with the extra drag parts, and the owner's manual. Currently RH, but is easily converted. Excellent. $250.00.SOLD

  13. It comes with spare parts for the drag system. 3.3"x0.95" and 5.6oz. It will hold a WF8F and 150yds of 20#. The reel has been used, but essentially shows no signs of it. Currently RH, but is easily converted. Excellent+. $195.00.SOLD

  14. Orvis Mach IV. A nice saltwater reel at the lower mid-range pricepoint. 4.0"x1.25" and 7.7oz. It has nearly a 2.3" arbor. It'll hold a WF8F & 200yds of 20#. I know guys who use these as back-ups for bonefishing. It is also all one really needs to do most single-handed work for steelhead, as well as much striper fishing. This is all black with the original reelcase, instruction book, and box. The only marks are super tiny ones on the corners of the reelfoot, otherwise it appears unused. Excellent. Currently LH, but can be converted. $125.00.SOLD

  15. Bellinger/Saracione 3.5" Nickel/silver Salmon reel. I've been trying to sell these as one of a set of three with matching serial numbers, but they just haven't moved. Therefore, I'm splitting them up. This one is 3.5"x0.9" and is 11.4oz. It'll hold a WF8F & 200yds of 30#. All of these feature Joe Saracione's superb cork disc drag with a 9 position lever for a drag adjustment. This one is brand new and comes with the original velveteen reelpouch, box, and warranty card. These were never made in significant numbers and were only offered to dealers at retail. Mint. RH only (although there probably is a way to convert it.) $2495.00.

  16. Charlton 8500SS 0.8. Again, there is no need to go into detail on these reels. Anyone who is likely to buy it knows a lot about it already, maybe more than I do. This is the perfect size for bonefishing, most single-handed rod salmon fishing, and I even used mine on permit. This one has some very minor boat rash on a small area of the frame. LH (but can be converted by SA.) Excellent. $2695.00.

  17. Charlton 8500SS 0.8. Again, there is no need to go into detail on these reels. Anyone who is likely to buy it knows a lot about it already, maybe more than I do. This is the perfect size for bonefishing, most single-handed rod salmon fishing, and I even used mine on permit. LH(but can be converted by SA.) Excellent. $2795.00.

  18. Charlton 8500SS 0.8. Again, there is no need to go into detail on these reels. Anyone who is likely to buy it knows a lot about it already, maybe more than I do. This is the perfect size for bonefishing, most single-handed rod salmon fishing, and I even used mine on permit. This one is as close to mint as a ten year old reel could possibly be. LH (but can be converted by SA.) Excellent. $2895.00.

  19. Scientific Anglers System 2 #7/8. The latest version of this model that's been around close to two decades. 3.55"x0.95" and 7.4oz. It holds a WF8F & 240yds of 20#. I see a lot of these on the Great Lakes' Tribs. Since they are quite well known for being fairly rugged they also make a good reel for warmwater fishing, though it's got more drag than you'll need for bass and pike. This one appears to be unused and probably was never even mounted on a reelseat. It comes with the original box and instruction sheet. Excellent+. LH, but can be converted. $95.00.

  20. H. Hart Umpqua. Do not confuse this with Ari't Hart. This reel was made in New York state, I believe, in the early to mid-1970s. It's most unique feature is that it is an anti-reverse classic styled salmon reel. 3.35"x1.2" and 10.1oz. It'll hold a WF8F & 200yds of 20#. The owner mentioned that he had used the reel a few times on the Miramichi, and I had to smile as I used it's sister on the Miramichi the first time I fished there in 1988. If you're not used to fishing AR reels, it will take you a while to adjust to it. However, if you're into AR reels for your saltwater work, here is your chance to get a classic salmon reel designed the same way. The drag knob is on the handle side which is where it belongs on an AR reel. It comes with the owner's manual and the original hard leather case. The drag is cork against Teflon and is still very smooth. The external condition of the reel is maybe VG+, but internally it is like new. RH only. $495.00.

  21. Penn International 2.5G. A reel that was very highly thought of when it was current back in the middle to late '90s. A little heavy by today's standards but very rugged and has a superb drag. 3.35"x1.25" and 10oz. It'll hold a WF9F and 250yds of 20#. It has a little bit of boatrash on the bottom of the reel, but everything else looks great. Extremely smooth operation. Comes with original zippered case. RH. Excellent. $250.00.SOLD

  22. Bauer MX5 that's mis-marked as an MX6. This is the serious saltwater reel in the Bauer lineup. The drag knob has been moved to the backplate and the drag's been beefed up compared to other Bauer models. 4.25"x 1.2" and 8.9oz. It'll hold a WF10F and 325yds of 30#. It's certainly large enough to handle most tarpon. It'll also hold many speylines and an adequate amount of backing. Spruce green spool with a black frame. This one is brand new with the original box, neoprene case, and paperwork. Currently LH, but can be converted. $495.00.

  23. Charlton 8550C with Bonefish spool. There's no reason to go into detail with this one. It is one of the most valuable and sought after saltwater reels ever. This one is unfished, in the box. LH only (although SA can convert it for $50.00). $2795.00.

  24. Magla LA9/10. Due to a lack of interest in them, I am no longer featuring these fine reels from South Africa. They have a cork drag, rim control, and a nice semi-gloss finish. 3.875"x1.3" and 8.7 oz. It'll hold a WF9 & 225 yds of 20# which is exactly how I've had mine set up. A similar model has been my 9 weight bonefish/permit reel for the last three years or so, and I couldn't have been happier with it. It comes with a box, nylon case, and brief instructions. Due to its outgoing clicker setup it cannot be converted to RH operation. New from inventory. LH only. 25% off retail. $295.00.

  25. Lamson Litespeed LS 3.5. Another one of these very popular models from WaterWorks/Lamson. This one just came back from Lamson for an overall checkup. 3.95"x1.35" and 6.7oz. It'll hold a WF9F and 200yds 20#. I have a couple of fishing buddies who use this reel for most of their bonefishing and love it. It's also a nice salmon and steelhead reel and is light enough to be a superb warmwater or striper reel. This one is matte gray. There are a couple of very tiny marks on the drag knob, reelfoot, and frame, but overall the reel is in excellent condition. It comes with the original neoprene case, instruction book, and box. Excellent. Currently LH, but can be converted. $295.00.

  26. Cortland 140D Magnum Disc Drag. An inexpensive reel that has enough capacity to use for speylines up to about 8 weight. 4.0"x0.95" and 7.7oz. It will hold a WF10F and 200yds of 20#. It has a simple and easily converted "disc" drag. It's perfect for freshwater work where high-end drag reels aren't always necessary. All black aluminum. Brand new in the box. RH or LH. $75.00.

  27. Bellinger/Saracione 3.75" Nickel/silver Salmon reel. I've been trying to sell these as one of a set of three with matching serial numbers, but they just haven't moved. Therefore, I'm splitting them up. This one is 3.75"x0.9" and is 12.2oz. It'll hold a WF9F & 250yds of 30#. It would also hold a shorthead spey in the 6/7/8 range and adequate backing. All of these feature Joe Saracione's superb cork disc drag with a 9 position lever for a drag adjustment. This one is brand new and comes with the original velveteen reelpouch, box, and warranty card. These were never made in significant numbers and were only offered to dealers at retail. Mint. RH only (although there probably is a way to convert it.) $2595.00.

  28. Charlton 8500SS 1.2. Another one of what might be the most popular model Jack did under the Charlton Outdoor Technologies banner. Perhaps the finest permit reel ever, and also quite popular for Atlantic salmon. The owner of this one fished a twelve weight with it for tarpon. It has two blemishes: One is on the corner of the reelfoot-even though the rest of the reelfoot shows no evidence of ever having been on a reelseat! The other is a small ding on the rim of the spool. Nothing that would inhibit using it. It comes in the original Charlton reel valise (it's a very early model originally purchased in 1995.) RH. Excellent. $2695.00.

  29. Charlton 8500SS 1.2. No need to go into detail on this one. Perhaps the most coveted permit reel ever and highly sought after for Atlantic salmon, steelhead, and similar fish. Though not new, there are no signs of it having been used. Currently LH, but SA can convert it. $2995.00.

  30. Charlton 8500SS 1.2. No need to go into detail on this one. Perhaps the most coveted permit reel ever and highly sought after for Atlantic salmon, steelhead, and similar fish. This is an early model featuring a cork drag. It comes with Jack's original reel valise. Currently RH, but SA can convert it. Not new, but doesn't show any signs of actual use. $2995.00.

  31. HarrisonSW Los Roques. Felton Harrison was the first person to use titanium in a commercially available fly reel that I know of. It's not the frame or spool that's titanium. It's the pawl, spindle, and a few other small parts that normally would be of much heavier stainless steel. I believe that only about 104 reels were ever sold with the HarrisonSW name. They were available in four sizes and in both direct drive and anti-reverse. This one is direct drive. Suffice it to say that all the models are quite scarce. 3.7"x1.3" and 9.4oz. It will hold a WF9F and 250yds of 30# backing. It features beautiful gold anodizing with a large impregnated wood handle. The drag knob is on the handle side. I doubt very many of these have ever been used, and this one appears to have never been on a rod or been lined. These have been seriously sought after by collectors, especially in this condition. It could, of course, make someone a nice bonefish reel or be used for stripers, perhaps. Excellent+. LH only. $995.00.

  32. Scientific Anglers Mastery 10/11. This is one from several years ago when these SA models were made by Hardy in England. 3.75"x 1.15" and 8.5oz. It'll hold a WF11F & 250yds of 30#. Perhaps more importantly, this would make a terrific inexpensive spey reel. It would hold a Windcutter 7/8/9 and at least 150yds of 30# even more with a typical Scandinavian setup. This one has a small mark on the rim, another on the reelfoot and a few very minor marks on the drag knob. It still qualifies as excellent and the operation is butter smooth. It comes with its original (though a little beat up) box and the instruction sheet. Excellent. Currently LH, but can be converted. $195.00.

  33. Elkhorn T4. I don't know much about these except they are marketed by the same people who do the popularly priced rods in Colorado. It's sort of a titanium color and is totally machined from barstock. 3.85"x1.35" and 8.1oz. It'll hold a WF12 and 250yds of 30#. More importantly it'll also hold a 7/8/9 Windcutter speyline and 150yds of 30# and even more if you use a Scandinavian head. As for serious saltwater fishing, like tarpon, I don't think there's enough top-end drag for that. I measured it as @3lb with the drag cranked all the way down. Now, that's plenty for almost any type of fishing, but tarpon and offshore are two exceptions. Also, there is no click in either direction. It appears unused. Currently LH, but I'm quite sure there'll be a way to convert it. There is no instruction sheet with it. Excellent+. $195.00.

  34. Bellinger/Saracione 4" Nickel/silver Salmon reel. I've been trying to sell these as one of a set of three with matching serial numbers, but they just haven't moved. Therefore, I'm splitting them up. This one is 3.95"x1.16" and is 13.3oz. It'll hold a WWF 9/10/11 shorthead spey and 250yds of 30# or a WF10/11 long belly spey with 150yds of 30#. All of these feature Joe Saracione's superb cork disc drag with a 9 position lever for a drag adjustment. This one is brand new and comes with the original velveteen reelpouch, box, and warranty card. These were never made in significant numbers and were only offered to dealers at retail. Mint. RH only (although there probably is a way to convert it.) $2695.00.

  35. Charlton 8550C with Tarpon spool. There's no reason to go into detail with this one. It is one of the most valuable and sought after saltwater reels ever. This one is unfished, in the box. LH, but can be converted by SA. $2995.00.

  36. Charlton 8550C with BOTH the Tarpon and the Bonefish spool. This is a very popular combination of perhaps the finest saltwater fly reel ever. The last one I got in here that had both these spools was about six months ago and sold at this same price before I even got a chance to list it. Currently set up for RH retrieve, though SA will convert everything for $75.00 (the frame and both spools need to be converted.) Excellent+. $3995.00.

  37. HarrisonSW Archangel AR. Felton Harrison was the first person to use titanium in a commercially available fly reel that I know of. It's not the frame or spool that's titanium. It's the pawl, spindle, handle and a few other small parts that normally would be of much heavier stainless steel. I believe that only about 104 reels were ever sold with the HarrisonSW name. They were available in four sizes and in both direct drive and anti-reverse. This one is anti-reverse. Suffice it to say that all the models are quite scarce. 3.95"x1.475" and 10.4oz. It will hold a WF12F and 350+yds of 30# backing. It features beautiful gold anodizing with a large impregnated wood handle. The drag knob is on the handle side. This one has seen some use of the years. The frame is in excellent condition, but the arbor area of the spool has some minor corrosion that has been nicely buffed out. These have been seriously sought after by collectors. It could, of course, make someone a nice tarpon or sailfish reel or it could be used as a lightweight, large capacity speyreel, perhaps. It comes in a non-original reelpouch and the owner's manual. Excellent(except as noted.) RH only. $995.00.

  38. Charlton 8550C with the Offshore spool. One of the Charlton models that are in the highest demand. This one is in excellent condition, although it has been used once or twice. It comes with the cordura Charlton reelcase, but no box or papers. Offshore spools cannot be converted and still have the cooling fins be effective. Figure LH only. Excellent.. $3995.00.

  39. Abel 4.5N Ported Big Game. These are no longer listed by Abel. The whole series of Big Game reels have been renamed as Standard Arbor Super Series reels. This one has the squared gear which allows for conversion from LH to RH and vice versa, and also has the double pawl system, which means it's not that old, but it doesn't have an outgoing click. 4.45"x1.1"x15oz. Abel lists it as holding a WF13F and 500yds of 30#. I'm not so sure that this listing isn't a little ambitious, but it clearly holds enough line and backing for any tarpon or sailfish you'll find. It has the black Coral finish Abel is known for, and I would rate the condition as Excellent---. There are several small marks or scrapes, but no dings and no serious intrusions into the anodizing. From 5 feet you probably couldn't tell it from new. It comes with the original Abel reelcase, instruction book, and blank warranty card. Currently LH, but as noted can be converted. $450.00.

  40. Henschel #5 titanium Dual-mode. One of the rarest reels available, and I actually have two identical models. These are machined from titanium and only five of them have been made to this point. 4.75"x1.05" and 22oz. It'll hold enough line for almost any type of fishing, including large tuna. I have the identical reel and it is almost all I ever use when fishing for pelagic species. On it I have various shooting heads, followed by 100' of 0.30" running line, then about 350yds of PowerPro Gel spun backing, followed by about 200yds of 30# Scientific Anglers white backing. The Henschel dual-mode is friction based so there is no clunking or other noise from cams being only partly engaged. As titanium is very difficult to mar the finish is near perfect. Since all titanium Henschel reels are essentially made-to-order, the owner requested that there not be any additional engraving on these reels. Karl-Heinz couldn't give me a current price that would be charged if one of these were ordered new today, but I'd guess that somewhere between $9K and $10K would be close. These are set up for LH and due to their value would be very expensive to return to Germany to have them converted. So figure LH only. NEW LOWER PRICE-$8000.00 for the pair or $4995.00 each.

  41. Steelfin Abyss. One of the finest big game fly reels ever. 5.75"x1.4" and 18.9oz. It'll hold a shooting head with a 100' running line and close to 1000yds of 50# GSP backing. The drag is massive and is carbon fibre. It features an offset reelfoot so the reel doesn't feel as heavy on the rod as it would otherwise. These haven't been on the market now for about five or six years. I see about one a year go through my business. The last one was mint and sold for $1800.00. This one has a bad rash on the frame right in front of the offset reelfoot. Not sure how a rash developed there. It also has a slight downturn on one corner of the reelfoot. However, I tried placing it on the reelseat of my Cam Sigler rod and it fit fine. It certainly operates just fine, both incoming and outgoing. It comes with the original large nylon reelcase. It's currently set up for RH, but can be converted. Since it requires removing six screws that attach the reelfoot to the frame I'm going to let the buyer do the conversion if he/she absolutely needs LH retrieve. A great buy at $995.00.

  42. MISC. GEAR FOR SALE

  43. Mystic Rod M383-3. A new rod from the Michigan company Mystic Outdoors. This is an 8' 3" 3 weight/3 piece. Beautiful rod with extremely nice cork for this day and age and a maple insert in the reelseat that's anodized aluminum but looks very much like nickel/silver. It features a crisp action but is not a stiff rod and seems to handle a three weight best. It's brand new except for a brief session on the lawn. Even the plastic wraps are still on the cork. It comes in a hard fibre rod tube and sock with all the paperwork. It hasn't even been registered for a warranty yet. As new... 20%+ off the retail. $275.00.

  44. Winston 8'9" 5 weight LT5 (5 piece.) This LT5 model is still current and very popular. It features Winston's beautiful nickel/silver uplocking reelseat with a wood insert that I believe is maple. It comes with the original rod sock and aluminum tube. The cork shows slight soiling from moderate use, but the blank is perfect. Excellent. $450.00.SOLD

  45. Sage RPLX 790-3. The rod series often credited with creating the fascination with fast rods. Although they haven't been current for about ten years, many guys will tell you that few rods cast as well as these. Today's rods are generally lighter in weight, but few outshine these in flat-out casting. The blank on this one is in superb shape with one tiny mark, and even the cork shows only minimal soiling. Three piece design makes it convenient for travel. This is a factory rod with original rodsock and tube. Excellent. $250.00.

  46. ADG Colorado Titanium 9' 7/8 weight 4-piece. Made in the USA. I've cast a couple of these over the years and they really are very nice casting rods. I guess the best description I can come up with is that they're quite fast without being stiff. I would treat the 7/8 designation as in the old days. Throw your weight forward floating lines in an eight weight and your sinking lines (or double taper floating if so inclined) as a seven weight. This one has a grey blank, a beautiful pewter colored anodized reelseat, sleeve ferrules and an inch and a half cork fighting butt. It shows minimal use as even the cork is quite clean. It comes with the original rod sock, but no rod tube. The price shown is well below 50% off retail. Excellent+. $250.00.

  47. Scott S3s 890-4. This is a saltwater rod that's 9' for an 8 weight and 4 pieces. Though I've never fished Scott rods, this one is known for being crisp and relatively fast for a Scott. There are a number of saltwater guys who swear by these. This one is in near perfect condition with no marks on the blank and only minimal soiling on the cork. It features spigot ferrules for which Scott is well known. It comes in the original rodsock and aluminum tube. Excellent+. $395.00.

  48. Sage Xi2 890-4. 9' for 8 weight line and 4 pieces. Considered by many to be the finest saltwater rod on the market. This one has received just minor use as even the cork is fairly clean. There is a tiny mark on the second section down from the tip. However, I cannot feel that it's a nick as the area seems perfectly smooth. It comes with the original Sage rodtube and rodsock. Excellent-. $375.00.

  49. ADG Colorado Titanium 9' 8/9 weight 4-piece. Made in the USA. I've cast a couple of these over the years and they really are very nice casting rods. I guess the best description I can come up with is that they're quite fast without being stiff. I would treat the 8/9 designation as in the old days. Throw your weight forward floating lines in a nine weight and your sinking lines (or double taper floating if so inclined) as an eight weight. Excellent+. $275.00.

  50. ADG Colorado Titanium 9' 9/10 weight 4-piece. Made in the USA. I've cast a couple of these over the years and they really are very nice casting rods. I guess the best description I can come up with is that they're quite fast without being stiff. I would treat the 9/10 designation as in the old days. Throw your weight forward floating lines in a ten weight and your sinking lines (or double taper floating if so inclined) as a nine weight. Excellent+. $295.00.

  51. Sage RPLX 1090-3. The rod series often credited with creating the fascination with fast rods. Although they haven't been current for about ten years, many guys will tell you that few rods cast as well as these. Today's rods are generally lighter in weight, but few outshine these in flat-out casting. And the ten weight was often thought of as the star of the entire series. Certainly it was one of my favorite rods of all time. The blank on this one has a few small marks on it and the tip section appears to have been replaced. The cork shows only minimal soiling. There are also some very minor marks on the reelseat. Three piece design makes it convenient for travel. This is a factory rod with original rodsock and tube. Excellent. $250.00.SOLD

  52. CND Atlantis 11' 9/10 3-piece double-handed surf rod. To my knowledge this was the first double-handed rod developed specifically for beach or surf fishing. There are many more available today and even the CND has been upgraded and is now called the Oceana. These rods have loads of punch and with two hands on the rod and no double-hauling it is not difficult to launch one hundred feet or more of line with one backcast. Though not intended for speycasting as such, with the right line these can make for an acceptable speyrod. In fact, I do some speycasting when beach fishing with my Beulah surf rod. This one features an deep grey/green blank, oversized stripping guides, a beautiful clear anodized reelseat and nice looking cork. It shows minimal use as even the cork is quite clean. It comes with the original rod sock but no rod tube. Excellent+ $325.00.

  55. Forgotten Flies. The famous book by Paul Schmookler and published by Complete Sportsman. This is the first edition, and I've seen it priced everywhere from $400.00 for a used book in "good" condition up to prices approaching $1200.00. This is in "unread" condition. $450.00.

  56. Vosseler Pro Fly Tying Vise. This is the vise that won a "Best New Product" award at the Fly Fishing Retailer Show a few years ago. It has a unique appearance, but is quite easy with which to tie. It features a suction cup base so that the vise can be secured almost anywhere. Once secured, it can be rotated from 5 different axis points. It also features a unique and patented jaw mechanism. This vise is brand new from my inventory. The price is more than 25% off of retail. New. $195.00.

  57. Canon A1 SLR camera. I've sold several cameras here before, and most of them moved quite quickly. When I was still shooting film this was my main camera. It's gotten lots of use, but has been given loving care. Alas, I'm about 98% digital these days so this one needs to go to a good home and to someone who still uses film, at least occasionally. Included with it is the high speed motor drive that was attached when I bought it and has rarely come off of it. It shoots at about five frames per second. This is for the body and drive in their original boxes only. No lens is included (though I do have a whole bunch of the Canon FD breechlock lenses.) Call or e-mail me if you're interested in any of them. It's really too numerous to list here. I also have several powerful flash units, light and flash meters including a 1* spot meter, filters (especially 55mm) and many more accessories. I would rate the external condition of the camera and drive as VG+ with some normal brassing from the neckstrap. The camera battery still works and everything seems fine with the shutter and light meter. It'll have my normal fifteen day return policy if you're not happy. $295.00.

RECENT ARRIVALS-These will have photos available when I get a chance to get them done.

  58. Russell Moccasin Company Mountain Hunter Boots. Alas, these were purchased more than fifteen years ago with the expectation that I would be doing some elk and sheep hunting when I retired. Health issues mean I can't do virtually any hunting these days. The boots are double-vamped with the Vibram lug sole so popular at that time. They are also lined with Thinsulate. The size is 9 1/2 EE. Each boot weighs almost exactly two pounds. Russell's, of course, is among the very few companies producing superb footwear in this country for the serious sportsmen. In fact, these are made a little more than a hour from where I'm located. These have NEVER been used, or even broken in. I'm not sure the exact same boot is available today, but comparable Russell boots run $250.00 to over $300.00. Same fifteen day return policy so if they don't fit or aren't really what you're looking for, return them for a refund. This one is Excellent+. $95.00.SOLD

  59. Russell Safari Boots. These are the original Safaris featuring Russell's luxurious leather in single vamp with ballistic nylon sides and tongue. The soles are light and designed to be very quiet. I wore these a few times mostly as a "camp" boot, having never taken the actual safaris that were once in my dreams. 9 1/2D and in very nice condition. 15 day guaranteed return if they don't fit or you decide they're not what you want. $75.00.SOLD

  60. Browning Featherweight Boots. I don't know if these are even in their catalog any longer, but these were the boots to have in the 1970s and 80s. In fact, even after getting a pair of Russell Single Vamp Birdshooters I still wore these more often as I simply liked the feel of them better and they fit a little better for me. There was a short period of time when kangaroo leather was not available and these were made during that time. Browning replaced the kangaroo with something called "tundra" leather. I've seen the kangaroo version of this boot and can say that although there is a slight visual difference, when I tried them on I noticed no difference at all in fit or feel. Suffice it to say if these were the kangaroo boots i'd be asking a lot more for them. These are in very good condition, the all-crepe soles show only minimum wear and all stitching seems to be fine. Size is 9D and it's a generous 9D as far as width. American made. 15 day guaranteed return if they don't fit or you decide they're not what you want. $50.00.

  61. Dunham Moccasin-toed Waterproof boots. These were purchased before Gore-tex technology was being applied to boots. Most waterproof boots at the time were either rubber or were round toed leather. Since I didn't think round toed boots were nearly as comfortable I looked a long time before finding these. I used them in a bunch of very damp situations and never had a drop of moisture enter the boot. These are a light tan color so there is some ground in dirt that I'm not sure can be removed, but the boots are in good shape otherwise. The stitching is in excellent shape and the Grebe soles show very little wear. These are American made boots made by the Dunham company that's known for so many other high-end outdoor products. 15 day guaranteed return if they don't fit or you decide they're not what you want. Size is 9W. $50.00.

  62. Hodgman Lakestream Wading Shoes. Brand new Size 14 wading shoes. Lightweight, but seems to be built fairly ruggedly. The pair weighs about 2 1/2 pounds. Felt soles, cushioned midsole and tongue, and brass speed lacing. $35.00.

  63. Olympic HM spinning reels. These are from the late 1970s and were among the first Japanese spinning reels to be imported to the US. There are five different sized reels to handle everything from 4lb line up to 20lb or more. The smallest, the HM4 has received the most use, the other four look nearly new. All except the HM4 have their original box (the box for the HM4 is around here somewhere but I cannot locate it.) This set could handle virtually any freshwater fishing. The bails are manual so you don't have to worry about trying to locate a bail spring when one breaks. All five reels for $75.00.

  64. Penn Mag10. Essentially a trolling reel which was designed to also cast quite well. I bought it as a muskie casting reel, but quite honestly I don't think I ever used it. I've lawn cast with it and it does cast quite well. It's loaded with Cortland Black Dacron line. I think it's about 35lb, but again, it's never been used. Excellent+. $25.00.

  65. Garcia Mitchell 406 spinning reel. Made in France, the 406 was a high speed retrieve reel designed for moderate saltwater use. I used it quite a bit for chinook fishing from the piers in Lake Michigan. It'll hold a lot of line. I've been trying to determine how much, but I'm sure it's all of 200yds of 20#, probably more. It has a deep midnight blue finish and comes with a SPARE SPOOL in its own plastic case. This has seen some use and it shows externally with some scratches and scrapes. But nothing that inhibits the reel from performing well and it seems to be performing just fine. VG condition. $25.00.SOLD

  66. Gun Dog Magazine. Thirty issues from Volume 1 #1 (September-October, 1981) to Volume 5 #6 all in Gun Dog magazine binders. If you're into gun dog breeds, you'll like this magazine even if you don't hunt. All have been read but well cared for and have been stored in the binders for all these years. $95.00.

  67. Wildfowl Magazine. Twenty-four issues from Volume 1 #1 (August-September, 1985) to Volume 4 #6 all in Wildfowl magazine binders. Probably the classiest magazine for duck and goose shooters (at least it was when I was reading them.) All have been read but well cared for and have been stored in the binders for all these years. $75.00.

  68. Dyna-King Kingfisher fly tying kit. This is brand new from a former Dyna-King rep. It appears to be almost identical to the one available today, but this is from around 2000. The vise has 360* rotation and comes with a pedestal. Tools include scissors, bobbin holder, threader, hair stacker, whip finish tool, material clamp, bodkin, all by Dr. Slick. Materials included are hooks, thread, cement, elk and deer hair, yarn dubbing and more. A CD ROM provides instructions. There's also a basic fly-tying book. Again, all of this is new and includes a blank warranty card for the vise. The vise alone currently retails for $135.00. For the entire kit...$150.00.

  69. Dyna-King fly tying tools. A bag with five brand new fly tying tools from Dyna-King. Included are a large hair packer, a medium hair stacker, a dubbing spin master (the best of these that I've ever used) a vise extension which allows the vise to be moved away from the table or desk (it fits any stem that's 3/8") and a bobbin hanger. All are of the same quality that Dyna-King vises are known to have. Total retail of these is somewhere in the $150.00 area. $95.00.SOLD

  70. Root's Original Dubbing Machine Kit. I can't say I know much about his. It is a motorized way of creating dubbing brushes and comes with a number of tools and in this case has a bunch of Root's flytying material included. It comes with a videotape (remember those?) showing exactly how to use it as well as a fairly thorough instruction booklet. I can remember seeing a few people post onto internet bulletin boards trying to locate one of these. Evidently, they were discontinued in the late 1990s. This is brand new and came from someone who was a rep for Root's for awhile. He couldn't remember what the retail price was, but I guarantee you it was quite a bit more than what I've listed it for here. As new. $95.00. SOLD

  71. Charlton 8550C Bonefish spool. This is the SPOOL ONLY. It is far more difficult to find spare spools for the various Charlton reels that it is the find the reels themselves. This is in as-new condition. It has a Chartlon case, but no box. LH only (though SA will convert for a $25.00 fee.) $995.00.

  72. Pflueger Supreme 577DA. This is the original Supreme from the early 1970s and has nothing to do with the reel Pflueger agains calls the Supreme. These were one of the few options open for anglers at that time in a true saltwater reel, but for whom a Seamaster or FinNor Wedding was but a dream. The DA stands for dual action. These are reels are often called dual-mode reels, but that isn't actually accurate. These anti-reverse reels with a fairly significant drag system. A lever on the backplate allow one to flip into "direct drive." In truth, it's just a means of stripping out line without having to pull against the drag in anti-reverse or to back off the drag in order to strip line. There is only a very minimal, essentially non-adjustable, drag available while in direct drive, so one learned to flip the lever back to the anti-reverse position before resuming fishing. 3.65"x0.80" and 10oz. It'll hold a WF9F and 200yds of 20#. It comes in the original box, zippered case with a defective, but usable zipper, instruction book, and the grease and oil containers that are original. Condition is VG visually as the finish on the backplate shows some wear. These were not anodized. In fact the black finish on the frame is the same that's used on Medalists of the same era. The spool is a satin silver and always seemd to me to be of a more durable finish. Though I'm sure there's a way to convert it, I don't see the instructions in the owner's manual so consider is it RH only unless you know how to convert it. VG visually and excellent mechanically. $195.00.

  73. Pflueger Supreme 578DA. These reels are often called dual-mode reels, but that isn't actually accurate. These are anti-reverse reels with a fairly significant drag system. 3.95"x1.0" and 12.8oz. It'll hold a WF11F and 250yds of 30#. It comes in the original zippered case, instruction book, and the grease container that is original. Condition is VG+ visually as the finish on the backplate shows minimal wear. VG+ visually and excellent mechanically. $225.00.

  74. Gilmore conversion kits. These convert your Gilmore reel from anti-reverse to direct drive or vice versa. Once you've done it once or twice the whole task can be accomplished in a matter of a few seconds. To me, it is one of the best features of the Gilmore reel, but truthfully most people who buy the reel do not buy the conversion kit. These have been on my shelf for years and need to find a happy home. If AR is listed first, that means it's a kit to convert an anti-reverse reel into direct drive. If DD is listed first, then it's the other way around. I have the Model X360 in AR-->DD, X400 in DD-->AR (SOLD), X400 in AR-->DD, X425 in DD-->AR(SOLD), and X475 in AR-->DD. These retail from $185.00 to $221.00. I'm selling them for $95.00 each. If you own a Gilmore you ought to check to see if one of these will work on your reel at this price as it'll allow you to use your reel as either an anti-reverse or a direct drive depending upon the species pursued and conditions. Black. All are new from inventory. $95.00.

  75. Charlton 8500 0.8 Thinn-Line & SPOOL. I occasionally talk about the 8600 Charltons and the 8500SS 1.6 as being quite scarce---and they are. But these guys are flat-out rare. And that means r-a-r-e according the to real definition, not to what eBay has managed to do to the term. I've handled hundreds and hundreds of Charltons over the years, and I'm sure this is the first of these I've seen. They show up every now and then in the 8400 (3") size, but almost never in the 8500 (3.75") size. This one is as new as a reel that is at least fifteen years old can be. It has the same specs as the 8500SS 0.8 and in fact shares many of the same parts. It's is in the matte finish which was used on the Thinn-Line models except on special order. If you're a Charlton collector you know how valuable this reel is in any Charlton collection. Currently set up for LH retrieve, and I doubt Scientific Anglers would be able to convert it. It features the original zippered reel valise that Jack's earliest reels had, and the spare spool in in the original snap case that matches. I will get a photo of this one up as soon as I can, but I think most Charlton collectors already know what these look like. Excellent+. LH. $3995.00.

  76. Mt. Rainier 2.875 RP. I stumbled onto a couple of Mt. Rainier reels that are brand new. This one was probably my best seller over the ten years or so I sold these. 2.875" (pillar to pillar)x0.90" and 5.7oz. It'll hold a WF4F and 50yds of 20#. These are anti-reverse reels and the spools are made from Delrin and are the original cassette spools. Each Mt. Rainier came with a SPARE SPOOL and this one does, too. It also has an instruction manual and the original pouch for the reel. Brand new. RH or LH. $350.00.

  77. Mt. Rainier 3.5 RV Titanium. Monte Schroeder, of Mt. Rainier Flyreel Works, was one of the first to use titanium for the frame and crankplate of a reel. And the alloys that he used, along with Jack Charlton, are stronger and much more difficult to machine than those being used in other titanium reels. I used my 3.5 RV Ti for many years, and it was like new when I finally sold it. This one IS brand new. 3.5"x0.95" and 13.4oz. It'll hold a WF7F and 150yds of 20#. More importantly, it'll hold a WF9F and almost 200yds of 50# PowerPro. It's weight makes it a much desirable reel for a 9 weight setup. It comes with a SPARE SPOOL and both spools are Delrin cassettes. It also comes with the original reel pouch and instruction book. The price shown is an incredible price for a titanium reel. The retail price in 1996 was $900.00 and the price of titanium alloys have tripled, or more, since this reel was made. Brand new. RH or LH. $750.00.
