Mason Cases
Arne
Mason has designed an absolutely gorgeous Clamshell leather reel
case that sells for $145.00. Only the finest Grade A English
Bridle tanned leather is used. The interior is hot-stuffed with
natural oils and the surface is waxed. Each of the three sizes uses
full 10 oz leather thickness and genuine sheepskin fleece lining.
Instead of the buckle used on many other cases, these use a solid
brass stud and slotted strap that has been a traditional closing
system for hundreds of years. This is THE finest, absolutely first
class. They are available in three sizes, called small, medium,
and large. In my testing, virtually all reels of 3 inch outside
diameter or less fit nicely in the small. Reels of 3 3/8" diameter
or less fit in the medium, and reels of 4 inches or less fit into
the large. The only reason a reel of those dimensions may not work
is if it has an exceptionally large width or a particularly high
reel foot. So far, just about everything I've tried has worked,
except for reels over the 4 inch mark and extra-wide salmon reels.
My return policy applies to these also. If you are not happy with
one of Arne's cases, or if it does not fit the reel you intended
it for, just return it for exchange to another size or a refund-your
choice. Retail price for all three sizes is just $145.00.
He also makes his hard cases for reels where his normal dimensions
won't fit, like wide Bogdan Salmon reels. Just add $20.00
to the $145.00 price, give me exact measurements of the reel
for which the case is intended, and expect to wait about three weeks.
For
2007, Just Reels is also going to feature Arne's vom Hofe style
reelcase. Made of the same fine leather and featuring the same great
stitching and care, these are made to order for $250.00.
They do not have the fleece interior because the reel fits so snugly
that none is needed. They have a buckle closure and are the same
cases that Arne made for Joe Saracione's reels for years. To have
these cases made, I need to know the frame diameter, total height
(including the reelfoot) and the total width of the reel (from the
end of the handle to the end of the dragknob or oilcap in back.)
In addition, Arne makes very nice traditional leather fly wallets for
$70.00-$95.00 and the best leather rod cases for $345.00-$490.00.
